How To Be Consistent in Daily Routine – 4 Powerful Steps

In the world of social media, it is very difficult to be consistent and do something on a daily basis. There is a lot of motivational content on YouTube, Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn, but still, we always find ourselves chasing something and then get distracted by something else.

Are you also a victim of shiny object syndrome? Do you also find yourself unable to stick with only one thing, and be consistent at it?

If that is the case then, in this short blog I will be discussing some of the methods I use on a daily basis to be consistent in my daily routine.

become consistent on your daily routine

While consistency could be a difficult thing to achieve right away, we can make a habit of becoming consistent on a daily basis by focusing on one task at a time and being consistent in just that task only and then expanding that to multiple tasks.

To be consistent, you need to follow some of the steps before you start. Following are the steps you need to follow to be consistent –

  • Why do you want to be consistent in a task?
  • What exactly do you need to do to complete that task?
  • Take a small step right now.
  • Do It Daily.

Every step is small, but very impactful when you need to be consistent in your daily routine.

Why you need to ask those questions? What benefit they will have in your becoming more consistent? We all know the problem lies in doing it daily, so how you will solve that? Keep on reading to know all of this.

Why Want To Be Consistent?

You have to understand why you want to be consistent in that task that you want to be consistent. If you ask this question and you get a proper answer, then it is proof that you need to be consistent in that task.

But on the other hand, if you find no proper reason behind.Being consistent in that task, then it’s better to leave that task because you are never going to be consistent in a task that is not important to you.

After you understand why, you have to write down the reasons. Before you start your task daily you have to write down why you want to do the task.

What are the benefits of doing this task?

What are the disadvantages you might face if you do not do this task?

You have to understand that your gain must be greater than the pain you have to endure. Only if your game is bigger then you will be able to convince yourself to be consistent on that task.

Break Task Into Small Parts

It is important that you also note down the whole task and break it down into small sub tasks which will help you focus and might be able to distribute the task throughout the day if it is a bigger task.

For example, if you are writing A blog, then this task could be broken down into three different tasks-

Research the topic of the blog

Write down a draft of the blog.

Edit the blog and correct any kind of mistake.

If this is how your task is broken down, then it will help you understand how you’ll break this task and do each of the sub tasks throughout the day. You can research about the topic before you write the blog in the morning. Then you can write the draft in the afternoon and you can sit down and edit the blog and correct any kind of mistake.

Take One Step Right Now

Now that you have understood what are the steps you need to do on a daily basis and you have broken down your tasks into subtasks and you know when to do each of the subtasks to complete your overall task, what you need to do now is to take a small step.

Momentum is the key before you do anything. Momentum will help you do it till the end even if you do not feel like doing it.

To build momentum, you have to take a step right now, no matter how small it is.

If you are going to write A blog tomorrow, then understand which topic you want to write about tomorrow. Even if you have no idea, then take a very small step like opening your laptop, creating a word file to write the draft tomorrow.

No matter how small the task is, it is important that you take a step right now to build the momentum for tomorrow. When you do this, you will feel confident about doing it tomorrow.

Do It Daily, But How?

This is the main point of being consistent. This step defines whether you will be actually consistent in your daily routine or not.

And this is also the most difficult step that you will do in your whole journey to be consistent in your daily routine.

It is easier said than done.

So what exactly can you do to be sure that you are consistently doing it?

Every day is not going to be the same. If today you’ve taken a small step, tomorrow you might find motivation to do it. You might find the motivation to do it the day after tomorrow, or maybe the day after that as well.

After some days you will feel unmotivated to do it and that is where the main challenge comes to become consistent in your daily routine.

If you want to do it anyways, then do not rely on motivation, rely on discipline. And discipline will come if you do it every day, motivated or unmotivated.

On one day you will feel motivated and you’ll do the full task. On another day, you will not feel that energy or motivation to do that task.

You have to solve the problem of that another day when you are not feeling motivated or not feeling the energy to do that task.

For that one, the easiest solution is for you to wake up, sit down and think about the whole task.

You will feel that you are not feeling energetic or motivated to do the full task.

Think about the smallest task you can do to complete that bigger task. And then start doing that smallest task and if you still do not feel motivated to do it, then just quit.

The day after the next day you’ll follow the same method. If you feel that you are doing that small task and if you feel like going, then go ahead. If not, then just quit.

The fun part of this method is most of the time whenever you take that smallest task and try to complete it, you will automatically feel the momentum to complete the whole task and that is what will make the habit of doing your daily routine consistently.

Conclusion

In this short blog, We discussed some of the methods that you can follow to be consistent in your daily routine.

Becoming consistent is not an easy task and throughout the journey you might miss some of the days where you might not do the task but don’t be demotivated. Instead, try to make sure that the next day you do the task.
